The facility was built in 1962 and operated as the South Tampa Boys & Girls Club for almost 50 years! At the time, the building hosted an indoor pool, recreation center, basketball gymnasium, shooting range (yes, you read that correctly!) and automobile shop. For the existence of the club, hundreds of children participated in programming on a weekly basis and notable athletes such as Brooke Bennett started their athletic careers in the facility.
For several years, the building was used to house out-of-school suspension’s for local high schools. The field space behind the building was also the home of multiple teams in the Tampa Bay Youth Football League.
In September of 2013, two individuals purchased the building and began shaping it into The Prep of South Tampa. Just a short period of time has past, but The Prep currently has 4 indoor batting cages, a basketball gym, fitness center, martial arts dojo, tutoring room, educational center and more!
